BEHIND THE SCENES…
HOW SV Gets Patches Made…

How patches are actually made is a fascinating process.  Here is how Space Voyage (SV) gets our patches made:

FIRST, the patch art from the SV is sent to our embroidery factory manager.
The art can be mailed, but is usually posted to the Internet as a web page.  The embroidery factory manager is given the Internet address.

The web page includes the art and all item specifications including:
1) Name of Patch  and revision number of web page art posted
2) Mailing address
3) E-mail address
4) GIF or JPEG of actual patch (larger version if needed)
5) Shape and dimensions of patch
6) Listing of thread colors and description of element on patch
7) Special notes and questions of factory
8) Type of border and if marrow specifying color.
9) Type of backing - usually PVC
10) Use of button loop -- Yes or No (if yes, specifies color)
11) request of price quote or confirmation of price
12) Delivery date needed

SECOND, our manager at the factory E-mails possible problems, questions, concerns and confirms our specifications.

THIRD, revises the art on the web site as needed, based on concerns from the factory.
The date of delivery is used to get the patch revised and into production.  Thread size and thread colors take up the majority of attention. Sometimes the size of the patch has to be made larger, or the art simplified, or thread colors changed to optimize the look of the final patch being produced. SV and the factory manager e-mail back and forth until all concerns are resolved. Then, the factory is authorized to digitize the patch.

FOURTH, a screen capture of the digitizing done by the Puncher in the Factory is sent to SV.   It is expensive to digitize, then change the art so this error is avoided by good communications.

FIFTH, If needed, more revisions occur regarding thread colors with trust in the fatory to know that SV wants the patch is be "excellent."

SIXTH, SV gives formal approval to produce the patch.

SEVENTH, The factory produces the patch and ships in time for SV to have it by delivery date specified.

EIGHTH, patch is invoiced from factory and paid for by SV.
