SPACE VOYAGE CAMP COUNSELOR (HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE) Camp counselors work with the Flight Director (FD), Program Director and program staff to help every cadet and pathfinder have as much fun as possible while fulfilling their level at Space Voyage. Specific duties and responsibilities are assigned based on the knowledge, skill, experience and confidence of each camp counselor. Camp counselors will be assigned duties where they can be successful.
Specific responsibilities and expectations include:
Maintains strength of character and the SVA instructor honor code.
(Good use of positive language and behavior, positive role model, high degrees of honesty, loyalty, reliability, patience and perseverance; no lying, cheating, stealing, drug use, or anything that would bring disgrace to the SVA program).
Attends orientation and training sessions. Arrives on time, dressed appropriately and ready to work. Reports status of completed activities to FD (flight director). Communicates what you need to the flight director (FD). Assists pathfinders with investigations, experiments and activities. Assist cadets with activity requirements as directed. Complete SVA Level 1-2-3 requirements as time permits. Works to become a certified SVA Instructor. Learns the 26 sayings and credos as soon as possible, learns the
pyramid of success and the E2A Science of Success.
Accepts other duties as assigned.
A Camp Counselors pay is based on hours worked, level of experience, as well as the knowledge, skill and confidence you have with the program. Visit with a program director (Doc Palmere) to determine your compensation package for the summer. Feel free to ask questions.
ADULT VOLUNTEERS, VISITING TEACHERS & VISITING SCIENTISTS Based on the interest of several teachers and community members from the aerospace industry we have created a volunteer staff position for them. Interested adults wishing to participate should contact Doc Palmere (303-985-3143) for additional details. A few years ago, Space Voyage Academy had an orthopedic surgeon who was trained for space medicine attend for a week. What a great resource!! Like all areas of or staffing program, we will only put volunteers in positions where they can be successful. These staff members must be able to attend for a minimum of three days from a program week. Generally, volunteers and visiting teachers help for one session.
