Dr. Mark "Doc" Palmere, Ph.D. is nationally known and recognized for his ability to create educational programs that inspire, motivate and empower. He is respected for his action research and long term commitment to improving education. Dr. Palmere's mission statement is: "To help learners of all ages to realize their educational potential." Dr. Palmere holds a Bachelors degree in Biological Science from the University of Nebraska-Kearney (formerly Kearney State College) and a Masters degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Nebraska.
In 1989, he was the first ever to earn a double Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the areas of Educational Psychology and School Administration.
Dr. Palmere began his teaching career in Valley, Nebraska in 1979 working with gifted and talented students and administering a program designed to increase student engagement and reduce school drop out by developing individual educational career plans for all students district-wide. Valley Public Schools, lead by then Superintendent John Johnston had a school drop-out rate of "zero." In the 1980's, Dr. Palmere worked with the Houston Independent School District, first as an intern with the district's proficiency test program and as a member of the crisis intervention team, Then, for five years as a middle school science and computer literacy teacher. Many of his science labs are still used by the twenty thousand six-graders there today. Palmere's "The Pizza Method" mnemonic device created in 1987 is widely used across the USA to help students learn the order of the planets. ["My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas," --- Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto]. Note: Since the reclassification of Pluto as a non-planet, The Pizza Method continues to be used as a guide for discussion about the planets. Interestingly, many students leave that discussion saying: " First you break up with me, then you drive by my house very slowly." (A reference to the New Horizons fly-by of Pluto in 2015, after be declared non-planet status.)
In 1986-1987, Dr. Palmere founded Space Voyage an educational adventure, immersing students in the cross career skills of thinking like an astronaut. In 1991, USA The Games was created, inviting middle school students to think like an Olympic champion as they learned "The Science of Success." In 1993, Dr. Palmere introduced Inventors' Showcase, an elementary science program based on Edison's model of invention and what Palmere calls "Edisonian Empiricism."
Since 1989, Dr. Palmere has worked with thousands and thousands of K-20 students. Dr. Palmere is nationally known for his skills in motivating students, knowledge of individual differences, data collection and data analysis methods, and models of teaching. Dr. Palmere continues to be an educational architect and child advocate.
Dr. Palmere continues to design world class programs that will inoculate our youth from apathy, minimalism, incompetence, suicide, drugs and drop out. As he often sayes: "We need to facilitate each child to become the master of their own destiny." Dr. Palmere has, over teh years coined many leadership axioms to help develop leadership skills in his staff.
